Strolling along West 18th Street in Manhattan, it's easy to overlook a curious little concern like
Ellen Christne Millinery. But as the shop's gracious owner, Ellen Colon-Lugo, confesses, "I like to keep a low porfile." So much for anonymity: Colon-Lugo's bello epoque gowns and accessories and especially her vintage hats have led Helena Bonham Carter,
Faye Dunaway, Madonna, and designer Narcisco Rodriguez to drop by. The shop's exterior, festooned with lavender flowers, is as proper as the interior is eccentric. From an Edwardian walking suit to a 1930s silk boudoir gown, the shop brims with an
assortment of the quaint and quirky. 255 West 18th between Seventh and Eighth avenues. |
